Teachers Courses

The great thing about this project is the circle of creativity that it has created. Gillian Lynne created four new variations specifically for young male and female dancers and I worked with her and then in turn with the Academy’s notators to create teaching notes, documenting the importance of musicality and theatricality of the pieces. I then had the privilege to teach the variations to RAD Registered teachers all over the country. They in turn went away to coach their own students, and no doubt infused a little of their own style and interpretations. And finally at the first of the regional heats I saw the first young dancers perform. Some of them would have made Gillian’s [Lynne] heart sing! But all of them gave a little part of themselves and that, after all is what dancing is about.

Teachers Courses

World-renowned choreographer, Gillian Lynne CBE choreographed four exclusive variations, one for males and one for females at each Level for the competition. Teachers courses were conducted around the country and over 100 teachers attended them in order to learn the variations. The teachers courses were conducted by Phyllida Crowley Smith [ Please create a link to the biog section]– dancer, teacher and choreographer – and in this instance, Gillian Lynne’s teaching assistant. Throughout the competition, teachers have been at its core and by learning the variations the teachers were able to return to their respective schools and work with hundreds of young dancers across the UK to learn and rehearse Gillian Lynne’s variations before entering them into one of the five regional heats.
